Rugby Tourists Münster

Home

On the weekend the Men secured their first win in the North league with an upset win over 2nd place (now 3rd) DRC Hannover. The men had one goal in mind - atone for last week and make sure they (Finally) make a statement in the North League.

The rain held back on Saturday and opened the day with some perfect rugby weather. The Tourists conceded the first try with a strong run from DRC and some poor tackling from the Men, however that did not keep them down. The men strung together phases and built up pressure on the visiting team, which had them on the 5m line. However had two dropped opportunities gave back DRC the ball.

This didn't stop the tourist though. Two defensive scrums later and Münster turned over the ball and, once again, put it through the phases to finally dot down their first try.

5 - 5 tie game.

From the kick off, Münster kept ball in hand and built up phases with the forwards finding space on the short side and drawing DRC in tight to the ruck. Some great running lines led to a quick ball out to the backs which was cheekily chipped through on a grubber kick from Tim Hülskötter. The rugby ball bounced wonderfully in Münster's favour and popped up just as Ocko Freese ran onto it and under the posts for another try.

12-5 Münster

Using the same strategy again, Münster put in the hard work with phases in the forwards and got quick ball out of the ruck to send the backs flying, running from inside their half to just outside the 22 of DRC. Unable to hold the pressure, DRC gave RTM an opportune penalty which they kicked to 10m off the line. Great line out ball generated front foot carries and once again, quick phases from the forwards secured another try from Flanker, Michael Lee.

17 - 5 Münster

DRC fought back after the last try and put a lot of pressure on the Münster Defence. Some missed tackles and a few mindless penalties and Münster were back on their 5m line. This looked a similar reflection to our last home game v. Linden, however this time - the Men stepped up and let their defence do the talking. Some strong carries and a solid clearance kick relieved the pressure and allowed Münster back out of their 22.

The arm wrestle continued until finally DRC cracked and were caught offside which gave Münster the opportunity to kick for the corner once again.

A dropped ball in the attacking line out ended our attack however, once again the scrum showed its work - with loose ball coming out the back and Münster regathering possession and attacking on the 5m line. The forwards did their job once again and drew in players from DRC tight to the ruck and a quick ball sent out to the backs saw Niklas Devenish punch over his first try for Münster!

24 - 5 Münster

HALF TIME

DRC opened the half with an early, quick try. A cracking run from the Inside Center and some poor defensive tackles from Münster saw DRC score in the corner within 1 minute of kickoff.

24:12 Münster

The tourist recovered well though, by keeping DRC in their half and a great kick chase from our winger ensured that Münster got the ball back. An attacking line out and some phases by our forwards saw us once again with front foot ball which, once again, got flicked out to the backs. A beauty overs line from Jörg Schlarb cut through the DRC defence like butter and he scored, almost untouched, under the posts.

31:12 Münster

DRC  answered with a try shortly after as the Men took their foot off the gas and got too comfortable with the lead. Some breakdown penalties and a scrum penalty saw DRC dot down a try in the corner.

31:17 Münster

Knowing they made the mistake, Münster immediately made it right by scoring again in less than 5 minutes through the forward phases and some fresh legs from Luke Lanio scoring his 2nd try for Münster.

38:17

The last 20 minutes had DRC scoring one more try from a dropped kickoff by the men and Münster kicking a penalty and scoring another, well worked try off the back of a scrum from the fresh legs of Dany Doukeng Kongmo Ngo.

Final Score

46:24

Overall, a great home game for the men and the supporters who came out for the game. This weekend we take on Wiedenbrück at their pitch - if you can make the drive please come along!

We know we still have a lot of work ahead of us and are continuing to moved forward with our game plan.
